A Simple Guide for Cebuanos and Community Volunteers
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) provides free, official Geohazard Maps that show which areas in Cebu are prone to landslide, flooding, and soil erosion.
These maps are essential for understanding why certain barangays flood and which upland developments are dangerous.
Follow these steps:
✅ STEP 1 — Open the Link
Click or type the official MGB Geohazard Map link:
(Alternatively, use the MGB Region VII portal here.https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/c48f83f81f1548bdb0a76c61638d52d6#data_s=id%3AdataSource_1-187db5d2cce-layer-6-1896c9e2bf5-layer-9%3A12586
This will take you to HazardHunterPH, the national platform for hazard information.
✅ STEP 2 — Accept the Disclaimer
When the disclaimer pops up, click:
“Proceed”
or
“Continue”
This is a standard safety notice.
✅ STEP 3 — Enter Your Location
In the search bar at the top, type:
- your barangay,
- your municipality/city,
- or an exact address.
Example:
“Guadalupe, Cebu City”
“Minglanilla Cebu”
Then press Enter.
✅ STEP 4 — Check the Hazard Assessment
The system will automatically display hazard ratings for your location, including:
🔸 Landslide Susceptibility
- Low
- Moderate
- High
🔸 Flood Susceptibility
- Low
- Moderate
- High
🔸 Ground Shaking
- Very low to high
You will also see a summary of the hazards affecting your area.
✅ STEP 5 — View the Detailed Maps
Scroll down or click “MAP VIEW.”
Here you can see:
- colored zones for flood hazards
- landslide-prone uplands
- river and drainage paths
- fault lines
- slope and elevation
- terrain features
You can switch layers on and off to understand the area better.
Recommended Layers to Turn On for Cebu Flood Analysis:
✔ Landslide Susceptibility
✔ Flood Susceptibility
✔ Slope
✔ Elevation
✔ Watersheds / Basin boundaries
✔ Terrain / Hillshade
✅ STEP 6 — Take Screenshots for Community Use
Use your device to take screenshots of:
- your barangay
- upland areas above you
- rivers passing through your community
- areas upstream that show high-risk zones
These can be used for:
- barangay meetings
- community education
- CLUP/Zoning discussions
- evidence for the Writ of Kalikasan
- hazard-conscious planning
✅ STEP 7 — Use the Map for Local Decision-Making
Encourage barangay officials and residents to use the maps when discussing:
- drainage issues
- road construction
- building permits
- subdivision approvals
- upland developments
- river clearing
- disaster preparedness
The maps are government-approved, official, and technically validated, meaning they can be used in public hearings and legal actions.
🚨 IMPORTANT REMINDERS
- Red zones indicate high susceptibility—take these seriously.
- High-risk uplands can cause runoff, erosion, and deadly floods downstream.
- Areas near river systems (blue paths) are high flood-risk, even during short rains.
- If an upland development sits in a red landslide zone, it affects entire communities below.
- These maps are essential for the Justice for Cebu Movement, the CLUP/Zoning campaign, and the Writ of Kalikasan.
